About the Role

We are seeking a Senior GC-MS Laboratory Analyst with advanced expertise in Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and a solid background in environmental chemistry. This is a critical role for performing complex analyses and mentoring junior staff in our Tustin, CA laboratory.

Advanced GC-MS experience is a must for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced GC-MS Analysis
  • Perform complex environmental analyses using GC-MS for Volatile Organics, Semi-Volatile Organics, Herbicides, Pesticides, and PCBs.
  • Develop and optimize methods in compliance with EPA methods for precise, reliable results.

Mentorship and Leadership
  • Train and mentor junior analysts and lab technicians, sharing technical knowledge and ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Routine Laboratory Operations
  • Conduct routine and non-routine analyses, ensuring compliance with SOPs and laboratory protocols.
  • Manage sample logging, labeling, and preparation in the LIMS system.
  • Prepare samples, reagents, and standards for analysis.

Instrument Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot GC and GC-MS instruments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance with vendors as necessary.

Data Management and Reporting
  • Perform Level I & II data reviews, ensuring data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare detailed reports and communicate findings effectively to internal teams and clients.

Quality Assurance/Compliance
  • Implement and monitor QA/QC protocols to maintain accreditation and uphold industry standards.
  • Identify and report non-conformances, working with the QAM and Laboratory Manager to resolve issues.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field (Advanced degrees are a plus).

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an environmental or analytical laboratory setting.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with GC-MS and GC instrumentation is a must.
  • Familiarity with EPA methods and environmental testing protocols.

Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in LIMS and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong data interpretation, report writing, and problem-solving skills.

Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment
  • Laboratory setting with occasional light to moderate lifting (up to 30 lbs).
  • Frequent use of hands for repetitive motions and equipment operation.
  • Occasional walking and standing for extended periods.
